Blogging – The Entrepreneur’s Secret Weapon

Author: Gary Whitehill

Too many entrepreneurs discount the value of blogging and feel as though nobody is watching – or reading.

Although you can use Internet tools to measure the traffic to your blog articles and even soup up the search engine optimization of them, sometimes just blogging is enough.

This past week I was looking at Lisa Lillien’s blog called Hungry Girl – what a sensation! As she says on her website, she’s just an average female, struggling with the same food issues most females struggle with every day. She’s not a nutritionist – she’s just hungry. So she wrote a blog because food is her passion and because it has been her lifelong obsession. During the last 3 years, she has released at least one recipe book a year. Talk about entrepreneurial!

Writing a blog is simple. It’s about your opinion or perspective on any subject matter. The secret is tying your business into it and making it relevant to you, your industry and your topic.

Heck – even the Huffington Post is a mere collection of great articles from a plethora of bloggers. They pick up the great newsmaking ones and pull them up onto the prestigious Huffington Post article roll.

What are you passionate about? How are you going to get your voice out there and into the industry?

This week, even I got asked by Plum TV for an interview – about blogging. We sent them information about my national book tour for Boys Before Business: The Single Girl’s Guide to Having It All and they looked at our blog and asked us for an interview – about blogging.

Hmmmm: there’s something to all of this time investment in blogging. If you don’t have one, start one today. Express yourself – in words, pictures and even in video. Lose that sense that it has to be just perfect and write it, produce it and post it.

You don’t have to make your posts long. Even Seth Godin, the world’s most famous marketing blogger, entrepreneur and the author of more than 3,500 posts writes short, to the point articles.

So what’s stopping you? You could just be stopping your business from getting noticed.

You Can Do It!
