Navigating the Twists & Turns of Entrepreneurship
Author: Gary Whitehill
When you sign up to be an entrepreneur, buckle your seatbelt and hang on tight because you are about to go on the biggest and best amusement park ride ever. Seriously, entrepreneurs face challenges every day and yet the best ones know that each day is to be celebrated as a win, no matter what.
Think about all the phases an entrepreneur must go through to succeed. You’ll trip and fall a bit – and you may even secretly shed some tears from time to time. On other days, you’ll be beaming with the biggest smile friends have seen on your face in years. They’ll wonder what you’re up to or who you met or what happened to you all of a sudden.
When you go to an amusement park and jump on a roller coaster ride, your face changes expressions several times throughout the ride. All at once you are scared, exhilarated, nauseous, curious, carefree, jolted from side to side and sometimes you’ll even feel yourself get a little bit airborne – and lifted right off your seat.
You know that feeling: you hear the clickity-clack as the cars climb to the highest point of the track before cresting and then go whizzing and whirring through the twists and turns of the ride, sometimes flipping you upside down or pushing you from side to side before you finally coast into the station for a safe landing – while you giggle and laugh at the last 30 seconds of the ride.
You get off the ride and compare notes with friends about how you almost threw up or how great that double loop was and how you felt like you were going to fall out at one point. And then you say the magic words: let’s do that again!
Isn’t entrepreneurship like your favorite roller coaster ride? Think about it: it’s fun, exhilarating, fulfilling and daring all at the same time.
The next time you feel down in the dumps on an entrepreneurial day, think for a moment of being on your favorite roller coaster ride. Remember that the ride doesn’t last forever, just a few moments.
Whatever is happening is just a phase of the entrepreneurial journey. One twist or turn and you’ll be riding on a different track. So hang on tight and enjoy the ride.
You Can Do It!
